Review & Re-write of IT Vendor Management Strategy

A Case Study

One of U.K’s largest Healthcare businesses were not happy with their engagement with their prime IT Application Services Offshore supplier. We were asked to review the entire IT Vendor Management strategy for Application Services and advise on it’s usability for rapid expansion into new overseas markets.

We took an inventory of live Applications and To-be scenario based on the Annual plan. Resources required to support current Applications, develop new applications and test were listed to a role level detail giving us the shopping list. We teamed up with HR and Procurement to agree on:

  • What roles would be staffed by in-house Permanent resources
  • What roles would be filled up by onsite domestic Contractors
  • What tasks would be outsourced to U.K based Suppliers
  • What roles would be managed offshore by third party suppliers

A Strategy Document was submitted to the CIO that included the shopping list of resources, a process to source these resources and steps to conduct Benefit Realisation review on an ongoing basis.

The resultant Roles matrix was mapped to suitable suppliers based on our market intelligence and research. An RFI process, followed by an RFP campaign was then carried out to select Suppliers as required by the new Strategy. We managed the end-to-end process from RFI to Contract signing as well as setting up the subsequent Governance framework.

We agreed with the client CIO to conduct an annual review exercise to assess compliance to strategy and also a study of the need insert any course corrections due to changes in technology, business objectives etc.
